In the spring of 1998, board members Barbara N. and Jackie S., workshop leaders extraordinaire (both work in the women's movement, for the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence, where they do training throughout the state), led us through the process of developing our mission statement. In a series of sessions, we identified our core values.
We found that, along with all of our high-minded purposes, number one was "having fun." (We have a page of photos illustrating our capacity for achieving that goal.)
In an intensive weekend retreat at Susan and Shirley's, we processed (and processed and processed) until we had a statement all agreed upon.
Jackie presents yet another clause for consideration
Mission accomplished! ("The Central Pennsylvania Womyn's Chorus brings together a diverse group of women, united by the joy of singing, to celebrate and empower women and to affirm a positive image of lesbians and feminists.")
Celebrating a job well done.
