- During World War II, 600 previously pampered women found themselves prisoners of the Japanese on the island of Sumatra, where they were confined for four years to a space no larger than a football field. In the midst of unthinkable hardship, they managed to create from memory a cappella arrangements of some classical pieces, and formed a chorus of women whose only common language was music.
